When we last saw you, (the Reader) Jane and Ellen had been transferred into THE INTERNET. Lets see where our heroes are now.
At first, all Ellen could see was white. And the noise was like scraping nails on
chalkboards. She could barely stand it. Suddenly the color came back, and she could
see a glass room. A woman was typing on a type writer. Everything was glass. The
people wore white, and talked to each other in whispers. Huge glass book selves and
cabinets lined the walls. It looked like a glass library. "Welcome to the Search
Engine," whispered Jane "That lady over there has been typing and filing since the
Internet was created." "Why is everything so quiet? And cold?" asked Ellen, rubbing her arms. "If it were too hot, the computer would crash. And all this would be lost." said Jane. "And as for the lack of noise, if they made to much noise, it might upset the lady." "How do you know all this?" inquired Ellen, fingering the books. The titles read: "GOOGLE", "FACEBOOK", and "GMAIL". She realized those books were under "MOST VISITED." Tiny little booklites read: "HOW TO USE FACEBOOK APPS.", "HOW TO USE GMAIL CHATS", and "HOW TO FEED NEOPETS". Those were all she read until the lady touched her arm and said: "Do you have a search card?" "I do," said Jane. "She is just visiting." The lady smiled and said: "Jane! Wonderful to see you again. Would your friend like a visitor's pass?" "Sure." Jane said. Thanks..." Ellen said as the lady clipped a ID card saying: VISITOR 199938001, 12/21/09. "I must be going, but be careful. Facebook is having some issues, so I wouldn't go there unless you want to go through the trouble of refunding a train ticket." after saying this, the lady then stood up and walked away. "Have you been here before?" asked Ellen, still confused about what just happened. "Of course! It is my computer! I just visit when I'm checking my email and stuff. Much more fun." answered Jane, walking to the glass door. "Where are we going now? And what about a train ticket?!" whispered Ellen, after remembering not to yell in the Search Engine. "To get anywhere here, you have to take a train. We need to get to the internet EDU." said Jane as they stepped into a busy street. It looked like the inside of your computer, but all glass and white. It looked very clean. Cables were being used as monorail rails. A glass ticket box was next to one of the rails. "Internet education?" questioned Ellen, looking at the ticket prices. "No, internet Email Disposal Unit. And don't worry, I have cash." Jane said. She pulled out a computer chip. "This gives me infinite money! Very rare, and very useful. Anna got it for my Birthday." Ellen looked at the man behind the glass counter. "Two tickets to EDU, please!" Jane said, showing him the chip. "I see." said the man. "Here you go then, and have a good trip." with that he handed them two slips of metal with the words: TICKET FOR ONE, INTERNET EDU. Suddenly a monorail appeared. The door opened and reveled a little room. Two seats and a table were inside. They got in and the door closed. As they sat down, a speaker said: "Our trip will begin shortly." and then the door opened again. The speaker said: "Stop one: internet EDU." "That was quick." said Ellen. "Yep, pretty sweet, huh? Here at EDU they store all deleted emails." said Jane as they got out. As soon as they were out of the monorail, it was gone. Just in a blink of an eye. "Think we can find the recipe? I mean, there must hundreds-thousands of emails here!" said Ellen. "I suspect so. I don't delete much, and my bin isn't too full." Jane said briskly. She walked into a white building, and called to Ellen she would be back in a jiffy. Ellen looked at her surroundings. Industrial looking buildings lined the sidewalks. People walked back and forth in white work clothes. In a moment Jane came back. Looking into the windows, Ellen could see a post office like place. Jane had sorted out her bin and found: "The recipe!" Jane cried, waving a letter in her hand. She read it and said: "Oh. No two cups of water..." she sighed and said "All's well that ends well. Lets go home." "How??" said Ellen, "I mean, not t hat I doubt you... But you have a strange tendency to not know how to go home..." "I resent that comment." Jane said, clearly miffed. "But I agree, we do need to head back. Beam us up, Anna!" and with that, they were back in the Bat-er, Jane cave. "Welcome back." said Anna. "Thanks!" said Jane, cheerily. "Now can we go finish cooking?" asked Ellen, wanting some of that pound cake she could smell from the kitchen. "Sure thing!" answered Jane. And so they made their cake and frosting, which was the perfect consistency of an ending line.
